Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople told the Moscow Patriarch Kirill on the implementation of decision about autocephaly in Ukraine. With such a statement after the meeting of the patriarchs in Istanbul was made by Metropolitan Emmanuel of France, responsible for the process of granting the UOC Tomos, reports Hromadske.
“The Church of Constantinople is strong and she has opportunities around the world. The Ecumenical Patriarchate, with its long life and experience — the first Church in the Orthodox family, he plays a special role. Therefore, the decision sometimes come from here. The main issue discussed was the question of the situation in Ukraine. You know that there is a split that continues for more than 25 years. The Ecumenical Patriarchate decided to use all ways to solve the issue of granting autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The decision was made in April. And we implement this decision. This was communicated to Patriarch Kirill during his visit,” said Emmanuel.
The Hierarch noted that the issue of overcoming the Church division in Ukraine is important to the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
