The grant is aimed at reviving the culture of small ethnic groups of Dagestan. There are 112 dialects in the republic, each region has its own culture and art. The Echo of the Mountains team is engaged in restoring the choreography of small nations.
Artists perform Nogai and Rutul dances, are working on staging Tabasaran, Tsakhur and Agul dances. To revive choreographic traditions, performers go to distant villages where they study musical motifs, ancient costumes and ethnic instruments.
“This is a difficult job, because, for example, Tskhakhurs and Aguls have been equated with Lezgins for many years, and these are completely different people, and today most of the cultural heritage has been lost, much has to be restored, starting from music and ending with a costume,” the ensemble’s choreographer notes, Honored Artist of Dagestan Daudbek Hasanov.
The ensemble "Echo of the Mountains" grew out of a dance club, which was organized by students of the branch of the Dagestan State University in Khasavyurt in 2004. Today the ensemble unites young people of different nationalities. In the collective – 30 artists aged 16 to 27 years, in the repertoire – more than 15 compositions.
The team took part in the cultural program of the Winter Olympics in Sochi, became the winner of the International Delphic Games. Now the ensemble is preparing for the gala concert of the winners of the All-Russian Festival of Amateur Creative Teams, which will be held in autumn in Moscow.
The All-Russian festival-competition of amateur creative groups is held on the initiative of the Ministry of Culture of Russia as part of the national project "Culture". Its laureates receive grants for professional development. This year the event takes place under the auspices of the Theater Year.
