ROC has notified his congregation that they can’t pray in the temples on mount Athos

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has advised its members that they will not be able to pray and take communion in the churches on mount Athos due to the rupture of relations between the Moscow and Constantinople Patriarchates. About it reports TASS with reference to press Secretary of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Cyril Alexander Volkov.

“Athos is the canonical territory of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, with all the ensuing consequences,” — said the spokesman.

According to him, “from now on until you change the position of Constantinople, and, accordingly, revise its position the Russian Church, they [the parishioners of the Russian Orthodox Church] will not be able to participate in worship, take communion, pray in the churches of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, to participate in other sacraments”.

While wolves said that I would not call the decision of the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church to break off relations with Constantinople, the “new Great schism”.

Athos or the Holy mountain is a self — governing community of 20 Eastern Orthodox monasteries, which is in the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Patriarch of Constantinople. In these temples can only pray men of all faiths who have received special permission.
