Shortlisted for The Art Newspaper Russia Annual Award Laureates in five categories will be announced at Gostiny Dvor on February 26.

Winners in the categories “Museum of the Year”, “Exhibition of the Year”, “Book of the Year”, “Restoration of the Year” and “Personal Contribution” will receive a figurine in the form of intersecting Big Ben and the Spasskaya Tower of the Moscow Kremlin as a symbol of the connection between Russian art and the world.
The criterion for the selection of nominees and winners is public resonance and a high professional level of certain achievements.
The shortlist of the Museum of the Year nomination includes: The State Tretyakov Gallery (for fidelity to the educational mission of the main museum of Russian art and the tireless search for new ways to the audience), the State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin (for his openness to innovations, expanding the boundaries of the museum's influence and a new approach to old art) and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (for the ability to keep up with the modern art process).
The exhibition of the year nomination included the projects of the 5th Ural Industrial Biennale of Contemporary Art (for the scrupulous scientific reconstruction of the world's first museum of modern art), Vanguard. List No. 1. On the 100th anniversary of the Museum of Picturesque Culture ”(for an innovative interpretation of the eternal theme and striking work with industrial facilities) and“ Fabrics of Moscow ”(for the reconstruction of the vanished world of Moscow textile production and the return of the forgotten names of Soviet designers).
“The best book” may be “Paper Architecture: Anthology” by Yuri Avvakumov (for creating a chapter on “paper architecture” in the world history of art), “Heavenly Blue of Angelic Garments: the Fate of Ancient Russian Painting, 1920-30s” by Elena Osokina ( for the first comprehensive study of Soviet policy regarding ancient Russian art) and “Mikhail and Ivan Morozovs. Collections ”by Natalya Semenova (for many years of work on creating a chronicle of the life of great Russian collectors).
On the short list of the “Restoration of the Year” nomination: restoration of state regalia and personal belongings of Russian monarchs in the Moscow Kremlin Museums; park sculptures and launching fountains in the park of the Arkhangelskoye estate museum; pavilion of Azerbaijan at VDNH.
For “Personal contribution” to the development of the artistic process and the art market, the following may be encouraged: founder of the International Cultural Fund Breus Foundation, founder of the Kandinsky Prize Shalva Breus; philanthropists and founders of Still Art Foundation Elena and Mikhail Karisalov; founder of the V-A-C foundation Leonid Mikhelson; Director of the Austrian Cultural Forum Simon Mraz; as well as the founders of charitable foundations of Vladimir Potanin, Vladimir Smirnov and Konstantin Sorokin, "Art, Science and Sport" by Alisher Usmanov.
