SkyWay string technologies at EcoFest 2019: at the forefront of the transport revolution

On August 17 this year, the fourth EcoFest 2019 was held at EcoTechnoPark in Maryina Gorka (Republic of Belarus), the key event of which was the presentation of the latest achievements of SkyWay string transport technology. The demonstration was attended by more than 5500 people from 50 countries of the world. Have you ever heard of string transport? Well, many of the technologies that have turned the world around are not well-deserved.

SkyWay is a completely new technology for moving people and goods, developed by Belarusian design engineer Anatoly Eduardovich Yunitsky. Outwardly, it resembles a futuristic hybrid of a funicular and a monorail, but differs significantly from these (and generally any) modes of transport. Its development became the life work of Anatoly Eduardovich – and now its first fruits can already be experienced in practice.

But first, a few words about the SkyWay transport system itself. This is precisely the system, which includes elevated overpasses, passenger (and cargo) capsules, as well as an automatic control system for them. SkyWay capsules move above the ground on continuous rails or durable trusses. Inside each rail is a bundle of strained metal wire ropes-strings, thanks to which the system got its name. They turn the rail into a solid and flexible engineering design that provides capsules with incredible speed and smooth movement. Flyovers are a network of rail supports – they make it easy to lay SkyWay lines in any terrain, even in mountains, swamps or permafrost.

Based on this technology, Anatoly Yunitsky and the String Technologies company he created developed 11 different types of electric string transport, 4 of which are already certified, and 3 could be tested directly at EcoFest. These are Unicar, a bearelled Unibus and a large 14-seat Unibus. Our correspondent was pleased to ride them and share his main impressions: “The cabins inside are very quiet, you can easily talk without raising your voice. The movement is fast and quiet – there is practically no vibration. Meanwhile, they can reach speeds of up to 100 kilometers per hour. ” By the way, 100 km / h for SkyWay unibuses is not a limit at all – just the dimensions of the EcoTechnoPark demonstration track do not allow capsules to be dispersed faster. At the same time, the fastest long-distance unibuses will be able to move at a speed of 500 kilometers per hour, and ordinary ones – 150 km / h. With such a speed, the capsules will be able to move in the city, and without getting into traffic jams, without stopping at traffic lights and without creating any threat to people. Another major component of the SkyWay system is responsible for this – an automated intelligent control system.

On the SkyWay network, all capsules continuously exchange information about their position, surrounding objects and general environment. All this information is processed by the control system in automatic mode – this completely eliminates the human factor (and this is a key source of errors and accidents) from the network. At the same time, the Unibuses themselves are able to recognize people and other objects and masterfully avoid any collisions. They do not succumb to "tricks", they cannot be deceived, and their work cannot be interfered from without. Even if all the capsule electronics is completely disabled, it will simply stop and wait for the next cabin, which will tow it to the nearest station. All this time, passengers will be under reliable protection of the transport module housing.

EcoFest 2019 was called to present all these developments and talk about their capabilities. Guests of the festival were able to personally experience all the presented unibuses and in practice check the statements from the advertising booklets. They all turned out to be true. Capsules move quickly and almost silently. Under them, you can safely walk and ride in cars. Moreover, string trunks comply with environmental standards that are so stringent that agricultural plants can be grown directly beneath them. This is an extremely important factor – because ordinary roads occupy almost 20% of the earth's surface, which could be used for more practical purposes. At the same time, SkyWay flyovers themselves are also economical – the capital cost of their construction is almost 15 times lower than the cost of laying subway lines, and the operating cost of power and maintenance is 2-3 times lower than any type of transport that exists today.

The advantages of SkyWay string transport have led to the fact that the development has already been appreciated in the most technologically advanced countries of the world. So, in May of this year, an agreement was signed in Dubai to build the first SkyWay line in the United Arab Emirates. More than 800 experts in 15 design offices around the world work daily to improve the system. SkyWay is the transport of the future that can forever change our lives.
