Old photos of the family of Nicholas II were discovered in 2018 in Essentuki during the period of repair of the building of the Stavropol Treasury. In the collection – nine photos depicting the royal couple, as well as pictures of the emperor with the Cossacks, princes and officers.
Also in the permanent exhibition are already stored items related to the history of the Romanov family. Among them is the genuine costume of Tsarevich Alexei, who was sewn after he was awarded the title of chief of one of the regiments stationed in the Caucasus. Also in the collection is a fragment of a mourning silver wreath, which Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolayevich sent to the grave of Rimma Ivanova, sisters of mercy from Stavropol, who participated in the First World War.
The Stavropol State Museum-Reserve, located in the historical center of the city of Stavropol, was founded in 1905 as a museum of local lore in the North Caucasus. Until the middle of the 20th century, the museum had a public library, which in the 1950s was the basis of the M. Yu. Regional Scientific Library. Lermontov. In 1962, a regional museum of fine arts was established on the basis of the art department of the museum.
In the last quarter of the 20th century, the museum activates archaeological, historical, ethnographic and natural expeditions. About 40% of the collections are made up of a photo documentary fund, which rather fully reflects primarily the history of the 20th century. At the world level is estimated paleontological collection. In the field of natural history, botanical, entomological, zoological and mineralogical collections are of great scientific interest. A significant proportion is the archaeological collection. There are collections of weapons, educational visual aids, posters, numismatics, cartography, ethnography.
